5-Day Horsemanship Weeks

Des here!

I wanted to personally invite you to join us for our 2026 Season at McGinnis Meadows!

With the exception of three, 3-day clinic options (these are great for locals or stayovers!), all of our guest weeks will run on Sundays through Saturdays, with 5 full riding days per guest week.  We will be bringing back several of our themed weeks—Stockmanship, Women’s Weeks and Advanced Horsemanship Weeks.  In addition, we have several regular ranch weeks, a few winter horsemanship weeks and our two Buck Clinic Weeks!

Stockmanship Week is geared towards those who have already had a crash course in our guest weeks as we build on horsemanship already learned, so that we can expand it into working cattle effectively.  We will be using our live cattle as well as our electronic cow which is a TON of fun!

Women’s Weeks are all about FUN!  We still teach the same quality horsemanship, but we take it outside into the meadows and in the mountains.  We might offer cattle games, obstacle courses and even competitions.  We typically have additional evening programs be it painting, games—anything we decide to come up with!

Advanced Horsemanship Weeks are for guests who have ridden with us prior, and want the most advanced version of our horsemanship immersion.  We work on refinement of the refinement in all gaits.  These are intensive but very fun and rewarding because we can get you further than you ever thought possible before!

Regular ranch weeks are a great intro to our program and are great for those who want to learn horsemanship, but also apply it to jobs outside of the arena during the week.  We will be working inside as well as doing horsemanship trails outside.  We might be driving or hunting for cattle in different pastures depending on the week.  And we may offer additional options such as working cattle in the arena or meadows or doing groundwork classes—we might even throw in a game of horse soccer!

Winter Horsemanship Weeks are open to all levels of riders.  Because we are exclusively inside and working on horsemanship only, this is best suited for riders who want to be immersed in horsemanship and either get a jump start on their horsemanship education, or take their riding to the next level.  We work with each rider wherever they are at and will take you far beyond whatever level you are riding at!

Buck weeks are always a hoot!  We do require that participants in these weeks have ridden with us or with Buck prior to signing up as we cover a lot of ground in a hurry!  These weeks are Horsemanship 1 in the AM, and stockmanship based in the PM—this will likely involve riders learning to work a cow on our electronic cow as it allows riders to get a lot more time on the cow!  Bring your horse or ride one of ours.  These are private clinics—we do not allow spectators so it is a unique experience and the closest thing to a private clinic with Buck.

We are always chasing excellence in our riding and in our riding program.  As such, we are always finding better ways to teach, giving you quicker results and digging into horsemanship at levels beyond what most folks have experienced before.  It’s not uncommon for our guests to tell us that they have learned more in 5 days than they have throughout their entire riding experience!  We enjoy putting our knowledge to the test with various exercises, with the electronic or live cattle and taking it all outside depending on the seasons.

We are super excited for what 2026 will bring and we are excited to reconnect with old friends and meet plenty of new ones!  We hope to see you here!

Stockmanship Week

May 10-16

We are diving into the details of reading cattle and all of the different ways we work them on a ranch; from driving to sorting to cutting, even exploring how to move them step for step on foot!  Stockmanship is an art form no different than horsemanship (which of course is included)!  We hope that guests will really start to get the feel of “reading their cattle” in a way that gets them pretty handy whenever their cattle dreams take them off the ranch. Ride one of our horses or gain experience on your own! We ask that all riders are comfortable posting the trot and cantering independently to attend this week.
