Lisa and Steve Klipsch have bought two other horses from us and just recently added Stan to the family! Lisa and Steve were newlyweds when we first met them at the ranch and are now bringing up Zach who’s really taken to Stan.
Then there’s Star. Mike Munda and his wife Michele came out back in 2002. They were newly married and have been busy with raising their new daughter Emma and Mike’s son Joey who is now 9 years old. Mike rode Star while they were here and had always wanted to buy him. Last June after having moved from New York to the country in Pennsylvania where they were able to have their horses on their own land, Mike was ready to buy Star for his son. They came out andboth rode the horse. Star took to the boy right away. Brianna’s first saddle also fit Joey just right so we waved goodbye to Star and her saddle. He gave us many great years and it was a good time for him to have more a life of leisure.
Randy and I just gave Mike a call to see how things were going with Star. The flood gates opened – Mike couldn’t stop talking about Joey and Star. He said “This is the smartest thing I’ve ever done for my son”. Joey does everything for Star and rides him all the time. Mike said he was out on his horse when Joey got off the school bus just the other day. It was 18 degrees out and snow on the ground. “Can I get Star and ride too?” “But it’s 18 degrees out!” “So.” “Sure son, go get Star”. At 9 years old, Joey asked if he could take Star hunting with them. Mike told him that they’d probably scare all the deer away with the noise they would make. “It’s not about shooting a deer dad, it’s about teaching Star to hunt.” Mike told me he’s only ridden Star once since they brought him home. Joey told him, “I think you’ve rode him enough dad. That’s my horse and I don’t like the way you ride him.” Little 5-year-old Emma asked to ride him; “When you get old enough, ask dad if you can ride one of the other horses.” Joey invited a girl from school to come over and meet Star. Not to ride him, just to watch Joey ride him! He would ride by and say, “What do you think of that? You like the way I trot right?” She finally got tired of watching and wanted to ride. Joey just said go ask my dad if you can ride one of the other horses. Randy was a big influence on Joey. After we talked, he asked his father if he let Randy know that he’s taking good care of Star. Mike said, “Yeah.”
“Good.” Joey said.
When Joey gets out of school he wants to take Star back to Montana. He says he’s a mountain horse and not like any horses over there. Star is quite happy with his new home. He knows his stall is the fourth one down when they bring the horses in for the night and Joey has a plaque on the gate that reads:Montana Star
“Star”

These are just two stories of homes our horses have gone to. One of the first horses, Rocket we sold to a couple up in Alaska. Her husband had just started riding and fell in love with him while they were here for a week stay. He was hooked on riding after being here and after several more visits, Shayne let them take Rocket home. His new owner, Chris Ross went on to compete and win ribbons in cutting and other events, and then his wife started a children’s riding program starring Rocket. Kim’s and Rocket’s riding program has been a huge success for the kids – he’s got celebrity status up there!
